(I just finished "Unity", and am reviewing now.)

The Jem'Hadar observer sent by Odo to the Alpha Quadrant with two missions. To live among, observe, and learn from the people of Deep Space Nine, and to keep an eye on Quark.

An interesting character to be sure, but he feels too much like a replacement for Worf.

Thoughts?

Is he the one who has no need for white?

I haven't read any of the relaunch novels in 8 years now. He made his appearence after killing a fellow Jem'Hadar who was against such a thing or something?

Yes. Three months after the acendence of Sisko and the end of the war, a force of renegage Jem'Hadar attacked the station while it and the Defiant were both undergoing a refit, destroying the Starship that was protecting DS9. A damaged Jem'Hadar fighter followed after and attempted to defend the station. Eventually all the Jem'Hadar ships were destroyed, with some surviviors having beamed over fromt he attacking force to try and destroy the station from the inside.

Tarana'tar also beamed aboard and stopped them. He is free of the white, and on a mission from Odo to learn about the denziens of the Alpha Quardrant.

Yep that rings a bell.

Taran'atar was purposely chosen by Odo because he was free of the white. I think he wasn't created that way, but found right?

The Jem'Hadar is the one thing I think DS9 got right. When they were shown, they were shown to be individual enough to make them interesting. But not overdone like the Klingons.

In most ways I think, the Jem'Hadar are more honorable than even the Klingons. It was natural to equate them to Klingons even in the beginning.

I like the guy. Torn between his duties. And for a Jem'Hadar he's old.

Makes you wonder who'd win....him or Worf in a steel cage match.

Well I think it may be a tie. Worf in DS9 seemed to be a very capable fighter. He even won a batleth tournament in Parallels. That and it seems that Jem'Hadar and Klingons are evenly match abilities wise. Though that doesn't say much since practically anyone can beat a Klingon and even humans like Sisko can beat a Jem'Hadar.

I think Taran'atar would have the experience necessary to win. He's been fighting for pretty much his entire life-thirty year's worth of combat, almost. For a Jem'Hadar, that's ancient.

True. Worf as of 2375 is 35 years old. Doubtful would have the same experience.

Though, you do have to wonder how much action Jem'Hadar really did see before the wormhole was discovered?

Probably a fair bit. I doubt they would've seen much action in space, but on the ground I expect there would have been continuous counterinsurgency operations. Even if only one planet in a hundred had a crack at throwing off the Dominion, that would still have been dozens or possibly even hundreds of simultaneous campaigns.
