Kirk is much the same. Morality is great, but reality has to come first.

I ask because Season 1 Archer is quite different than the Archer portrayed in the final episode
Ayup. At the end of their careers so no surprises and, "Wait, when did I do that? The ship just launched!"

Janeway will definitely be looked down on by Sisko, Kirk and Picard, but I'm not so sure they would be so hard on Archer.
All of the Captains above were Captains at a time when the Federation had been exploring space for some time, had a lot of experience dealing with alien lifeforms and cultures, and had seen their fair share of "space wars"...
So Archer's "evaluation" should be tempered by that.
Was he a great captain?
No.
Was he as bad as Janeway?
Hell no...

Well, really, if this is at the end of their careers than yeah, their attitude to Archer might be quite different. In IAMD, we see that Archer had a very successful and seemingly influential career. Kirk and Picard -- and to some extent Janeway -- the great explorers might actually adopt a more conciliatory, near-reverential tone

Thing is that it would require the acceptance of excuses from the other captains. Kirk, Sisko... not big on excuses. Their tempers may even be shorter then mine.

Depends. If the existing captains are privy to what actually went down and saw things like "A Night in Sickbay," there goes Archer's slack.

They're privy to everything. No hiding logs or anything like that.

Archer's dead. At the very least they will all talk him to death.

I don't think so. His actions that day, while screwy, led to the Prime Directive..which they all believe in whole heartedly (even Janeway in her...........unique way).

I doubt that. Kirk has shown he uses the PD as a guide but feels free to counter it when needed. Picard has violated it on at least seven accounts and Sisko... He's the f***ing Sisko. He does what he pleases when he pleases!

My take...

Perhaps Archer's poor decisions are the basis for what not to do in similar future circumstances.

Kirk will, as stated before, violate the prime directive if it serves the greater good (needs of the many and all that...)

Picard will take the time to consider all the facets of the situation and invariably make the most 'correct-est' choice after considering all the alternatives.

Sisko - In the Pale moonlight... 'nuff said...

Janeway will adhere to the letter of the directive, regardless of circumstance. She has the benefit of accessing the insights of all the other 4 captains that have served before her, and yet makes the poorest decisions...

Remember, Archer was the one making things up as he went along. All the others had a playbook of right and wrong to go by....he didn't. He wrote the book.

IQ and morales would have helped a lot though... he lacked both.
