Re: The Paladin Class
The Prometheus does look a bit like a ISD with nacelles, so this is simply a continuation of that

True, true. But then one doesn't have to follow every trend.

You don't have to, that's true.

Re: The Paladin Class
Actually, the pyramidal primary hull idea started with the proposed ship for the TOS follow-up series Star Trek: Phase II which ended up becoming ST: TMP instead of a TV series. The proposed ship was designed by the same guy(s) who designed the ISD, IIRC.

Re: The Paladin Class
Actually this isn't exactly true. It was the secondary hull which became pretty much a star destroyer while keeping the saucer shaped primary hull. The proposition was from Ralph McQuarrie iirc for "Planet of the Titans" and was relativly soon ditched for an updated version by Matt Jeffries for "Phase II". (which was already pretty close to the TMP Enterprise)Mikey wrote:Actually, the pyramidal primary hull idea started with the proposed ship for the TOS follow-up series Star Trek: Phase II which ended up becoming ST: TMP instead of a TV series. The closest they came to a pyramidal primary hull prior to prometheus was the actual concept model for Voyager which pretty much looked like the Prometheus with two warp nacelles (my guess is that they just remembered the ditched modell lying around somewhere and modified it a bit). "The Art of Star Trek" (interesting book btw) gives no clue as to the reasons yet this model too was ditched and design process for Voyager started anew. Take a look:
It is hard to argue preferences, so suffice to say that I don't like this design direction. It makes the ships looking to generic, to copy-pastable to any other franchise without problems imho, but again, just personal preference.

Yes, I was working from a faulty memory. It was the triangular/flattened pyramid secondary hull of which I was thinking.

Re: The Paladin Class
The secondary hull looks a bit like a Klingon D-7, with Romulan Bird-of-Prey nacelles, IMO. Weird.
