TMP had booties on the pants.....TNG had man mini skirts.

Good god, what a choice.

I thought the idea was to think with logic and not you're gentlemen vegetables.

One of my personal rules when it comes to military uniforms is that you can never have too many pockets.

Amazingly, ENT was the only show to feature such pocketed uniforms.

Actually the TOS movie uniforms all had pockets. The maroon uniforms had pockets in the pants and the TMP unitards often had cargo leg pockets.

Do you have any pics? I don't recall seeing either of those.

For the other movies, I'll have to hunt around. I distinctly remember one of the crew having his hands in his pockets though, Bones probably.

Damned if I remember that pocket in the TMP uni, but '79 was a long time ago. If you mean hip pockets in the jacketed unis, I can believe it but it's hardly pragmatic - those pockets would be under the jacket.

I mean pockets like in jeans, for your hands. My combat, garrison and dress uniforms all had them (obscured by the shirt/jacket).

Edit: The pockets in the TMP uni weren't in every uniform though.

I understand. Good for car keys or change, not so much for kit that may be needed under heavy pressure.

Which is another problem that I touched on, the lack of uniformity in the uniforms of some franchises. I know different duties/positions call for different unisforms in RL, but I'm talking about differing uniforms among positions that wouldn't seem to call for it, or in duty unis rather than fatigues.

Oh yeah, the consistent lack of anywhere to put things is pretty silly. I suppose one could argue that they don't have anything to carry but....

I think thats what the utility belts are for. To carry phaser, tricorder, etc.

The only thing I recall about the belts is that the buckle was a transmitting condition monitor, and IIRC that was fron a non-canon source.

That works for large items but it doesn't help with the thousand-and-one pieces of random crap that need to be carried round every day, and runs the risk of them being knocked off. There's a good reason that modern armies and police forces use proper pockets and holsters to carry equipment in, and don't just stick them onto their belts with velcro.

Exactly, although I think it would be a touch excessive for shipboard duties, not to mention awkward given how little room is typically available aboard ship.
