If you could be a captain in any era, which would it be?

I also think it might have been fun as a time ranger of the 29th century. I'd be going back and farking with cavemen in my spare time. Who needs a holodeck when there's time travel. Who cares about the rapture when there's native girls to capture; there's a party at the end of the world!
Don't you hear my call, though you're many years away, don't you hear me calling you?
I'd have to go with 29th-31st century time ships.
It would be exciting to be in the DS9 era and go to war. But living in exciting times is not always as fun as it looks.
So maybe I should pick the time period between ST VI and Next Generation. Relative peace in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. Not having to worry too much about dying.

miranda is a compact ship, a fine choice!

Late Movie era for me too; Exclesiors coming out of the shipyards, and the chance to be assigned to a Miranda when they where a viable ship instead of a good looking coffin. I always thought of it as the the time where the Federation starts to pull ahead of the Major Power pack, and starts the journey to become the rather complacent top dog of early TNG.
I also agree about the uniforms, and I prefer the Nicholas Meyer vision of Starfleet to Gene Roddenberry's.
Christian Slater. When he did that role as the Ensign it was a cameo, nowadays that would be a good gig for him.....
