Random thought
Re: Random thought
Heck, all sorts of extraneous shit is stuck on pistols these days. Can't hit the broadside of a barn sticks (lasers), or shoot me here sticks (flash lights), why not a 'separate you into your constituent particles box'.

Phaser bayonets? It would certainly be cool, if nothing else.

A phaser set on widebeam would actually be a pretty damn good close-quarters defensive weapon.Deepcrush wrote:Yeah, just before you reach the line as the enemy pull knives and swords, you cut them in have with phaser sweeps...Sionnach Glic wrote:Phaser bayonets? Re: Random thought
Too bad they never seemed to remember phasers could do that when they really needed it. Like say to repel a massed rush of jem'hadar while sheltering in a cave with a choke point. Nope, far better to take individual, slowly aimed shots into the zerg rush.Sionnach Glic wrote:A phaser set on widebeam would actually be a pretty damn good close-quarters defensive weapon.Deepcrush wrote:Yeah, just before you reach the line as the enemy pull knives and swords, you cut them in have with phaser sweeps...Sionnach Glic wrote:Phaser bayonets? Yeah... still trying to figure out why they picked that moment for incompetence.
No trees were killed in transmission of this message. However, some electrons were mildly inconvenienced.

Re: Random thought
I blame Q. Seriously, I think he's been fucking with Starfleet since he first found them, inflicting them with random moments of idiocy for his own amusement. How else can they jump from being so brilliant to so moronic?stitch626 wrote:Yeah... still trying to figure out why they picked that moment for incompetence.

Re: Random thought
There's got to be some reason they don't use the wide beam more often. Maybe it's a huge power drain, only works at short range, something like that. "They're idiots" is a patently unsatisfying answer.

Re: Random thought
It would be consistent with Starfleets history.
However, I imagine it probably makes a huge power drain batteries or something.

Re: Random thought
There's a lot of stuff that can only be explained by idiocy. I'd love to avoid adding to the list.
