Weren't Odo's deputies under Bajoran authority rather then Starfleets? I was never clear where Odo fitted into the Command structure.Deepcrush wrote:I think DS9 had it covered, at least somewhat. Odo's staff always seemed separate from the Ops staff. But like I said, I'll post up an update of everything to date. Then people can just say if they want anything added.
I believe Odo and his security staff were technically part of the Bajoran Militia. Since it was a Bajoran-owned station and the primary merchants and inhabitants would be (ideally) Bajoran, the Council of Ministers or whatever they call themselves probably would want someone under Bajoran authority in charge of security.kostmayer wrote:Weren't Odo's deputies under Bajoran authority rather then Starfleets? In that case, something like the MACOs (but being SF members) would be appropriate for Security as in limited ship-centric duties ... and a separate independent force (non SF) to work like the USMC. About being under SF Admiralty, i don't know, are the US navy and USMC under the same lidership?Captain Seafort wrote:I'd make them an independent force, under the Admiralty, but not part of Starfleet itself. Security should be limited to ship-centric duties - guarding sensitive areas, repel boarders, honour guard for VIPs, making up numbers for landing parties, etc. The Marines' job is to conduct full-scale warfare - either in the traditional amphibious assault role or as elite infantry.
No it can't be changed...Mikey wrote:Done. Will run for 5 days, one vote per person, may be changed.
I'm telling you, the USMC is part of the Department of the Navy. It even says so on the USMC seal. Such a force should be separate from security, but there's no need to be separate from Starfleet. Any expeditionary forces are going to naturally intertwined with Starfleet, who calls all the military action anyway.SomosFuga wrote:Finally if UFP or SF need a marine corps, that is other subjet but i think they should exist as a totally different organization (like i think is with the USMC)
It's American jargon... "Special Operations Forces." The term "Special Forces" often refers to the Green Berets specifically, so we use SOF to refer to Delta Force, Force Recon, Rangers, the 82nd/101st, etc.SomosFuga wrote:What is SOF?
Do they have the same rank system and all that?, doesn't USMC operate their own planes, have their own bases, etc? sorry i really don't understand well how it works, i thought USMC was more like a second but smaller army.Mikey wrote:I'm telling you, the USMC is part of the Department of the Navy.
