Favorite Designs: Special effects
And we're back. We've done ships, we've done weapons, now it's time to find out what special effects of trek tickled your fancy, what FX made you sit up and go "Wow!", or at least made you think "Cool stuff"
Same old rules, make a nomination. If three other people will support it, it becomes a candidate for voting when the poll is put up.
For my own, I have to nominate the new transporter effect in XI. Something about the swirly pattern effect really just does it for me the way the glimmering moats never did. I also nominate the new warp jump, it just gives such a better feel of vast, blinding acceleration.

I will second the new transporter effect. Similar enough to the original, and looks cool.
I'l also like to nominate the STVI photon torpedo and the destruction of the FC cube.

I didn't think the FC Cube destruction was all that great, personally.
I quite like the new warp drive effect. Caught me by surprise when I didn't see the familiar star-streak effect.

Another vote for the Trek XI warp jump - quicker, snappier, and generally better than the TNG+ effect. And I liked the bang.

Thirded... That was pure awesome, as well as the time ship firing and hitting the planet, that was pretty awesome too.

The Genesis cave, or the Mutara Nebula from Star Trek TWOK:
Not the best technically, but both looked gorgeous in my eyes.

I'll nominate the destruction of the E-nil in TSFS, and I'll second the STXI warp jump.

Re: Favorite Designs: Special effects
I'll second the Mutara nebula. Simple, and not Earth-shatteringly spectacular, but they pulled it off nicely.
