Favorite Designs: Weapons

Well we seemed to enjoy this with ships (given the copycat threads that have sprung up :D), and managed to get through it without any bloodshed even, bravo. So, lets see how people feel about what I would consider to be the next most interesting aspect of any scifi universe, the tools of death.

Same rules as with the ships, make your nominations based on how much you like a given weapon, for whatever reason, looks, effects, style...I'm going to leave this category pretty wide open, anything from hand phasers to quantum torpedos to doomsday devices. As long as the item in question is built with the purpose of inflicting injury and/or death, it counts.

I'll start off nominating the phaser pistols from the new movie. Got to love the flip around barrels.

I'll nominate the bat'leth, and the hand phasers from STV and STVI. They were a great, modernized version of the basic TOS-era phaser.

The TNG movie phaser rifles - the only proper rifle I can remember in Trek.

Yeah, I'm gonna go with the FC + phaser rifles, also.

Really? The extreme concavity of the bat'leth - to say nothing of the fact that the cutting edge is on the inside of the concave section - limits it. The cutting edge is far shorter than it could be, and the fact of the concavity puts natural stops to the length of blade that can be drawn along a target. The opposite would make a good weapon, like a tulwar or Cossack saber. Its a great design for a parrying weapon or sword-breaker, but that's about it. The d'k'tahg is a decent weapon.

I'd have to nominate the type-II phasers from TUC.

The type I Phasers from Star Trek TNG.

Powerful and compact - every crewman on board ship should be armed with one.

I'll third the TNG+ Era Phase Rifles...also the Phaser Pulse Cannons are pretty cool IMO
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

The TR-116 with transporter addon.

The weapon looks very cool. And the operator can see through walls, and basically hit anything whatsoever. The gun renders the whole concept of taking cover obsolete. That's truly boggling.

Only thing I didn't like about it was that the ammunition clip seemed small and strangely shaped. But beyond that, awesome weapon.

But, but it was so primitive, there are no fancy lights that one can seemingly avoid by rolling out the way.

I would have to vote for the Cardassian Defense Platform, this things rocked, except for that one little flaw.

TR-116 for obvious reasons.
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

The original phaser rifle from Where No Man Has Gone Before. Why? Because it looks like the old 50's style ray guns.

TNG movie phaser rifles. The TR-116 is damned impressive though. With those even the red shirts might have stood a chance.

TR-116 w/ or w/out the little transporter thingy, TUC "assault" phasers, one hard core lookin' piece o' equipment.

The Lirpa from Enterprise not Amok Time, and the Bat'leth of course.
