Top Ten Dumbest Things Starfleet Does

Post by Tyyr »

As an off shoot of the dolphin discussion lets compile a list of the top ten stupidest things Starfleet does. It can be any time period, any part of the franchise. Nominate as many as you want. Right now just looking for nominations not rankings, we'll get to those later.

Limited computer security takes the top of my list.
Followed shortly by poor ship security.
Followed by GCS warp core.
No trees were killed in transmission of this message. However, some electrons were mildly inconvenienced.

I'll nominate "no army" before Seafort beats me to it.

And, I'll second the GCS' Explode-O-Matic warp core.

The "no exceptions" nature of the prime directive.

No seatbelts.

Exploding consoles.

Putting the bridge in a dome on the very top of the ship.

Being able to turn off the holodeck safeties - it's a recreational facility; why should there be an option of letting it kill people?

And consistently sending their most valuable officers on away missions where they can get shot at.

Bringing 4 able candidates to the Academy, telling them that any one of them would make a fine officer, but still rejecting 3 of them.
Forcefield brigs with no back up metal door - for that matter, the forcefield should be the back up.
No clamps to prevent Shuttlecraft theft.

"My wife is in hell, where I sent her. She could make good biscuits, but her behavior was terrible."

That doesn't count as stupid. Genocidal, but not stupid.

As for the top 3:

GCS warp core
Children on starships
No proper army

Civilians on ships intended for battle.
Bridges out in the open where a stray shot can destroy them.
A bump to the nacelles causing a warp core breach.
No basic computer security protocols.

None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.

Which ones? The movie ones were pretty good, and the later TNG-pattern ones were at least decent.

Yeah, it was really just the TMP and early TNG ones that were awful.
