But with Cloaking and warp travel having the enemy get to them is much more likely.

Thus protectiing it is a very wise step since they would cost a lot to build.

The carrier has its own cloaking device. Thus it can hide itself while launching craft.
Also, logicaly the vessel would be deployed with escorts.

Yes...I can't see a carrier being so vulnerable it needs ablative armor - especially with a cloaking device and escorts/fighters. Waste of resources, but we could be delving into the realm of uber...

They seem to have done a similar thing here as is done with SW ISD's and the Stargate Prometheus. Its a carrier/battleship....designed to be in the thick of combat. As well as carry fighters.

Yeah, they seem to be made uber, which doesn't make sense for any carrier ship, you don't see aircraft carriers running straight into a battlefield, that would be stupid, instead they send the fighters(planes) in.

The ISD is more of a dedicated anti-insurgency vessel rather than a true carrier.
The Prometheus, and later those that followed the Daedalus pattern, held just 8 and 16 fighters respectively. I'd hesitate to call them true carriers, as the fighters are there more as a suplement to the vessel's own offensive armament.

True points. Really would have to wait until the actual stats come out, or someone plays the game to see how the ship is actually equipped: more of a heavily armed battlecarrier, or a battleship with a few fighter bays.

Disregarding the "neutronium alloy" aspect of it, I don't have a problem with armoring it. These are the Klingons we're talking about. Staying off the front lines, even in a ship that is decidedly not supposed to be in the thick of the fighting, is not really one of their strong suits.

Agreed, it fits with the Klingon mentality. Now the neutronium part is... well stupid, but armoring a ship isn't. Of course it's ugly as hell so it'll fit in with the other STO ships.

When the Defiant first appeared, I had this idea that tough as she was, she still suffered from the Dominion's ability to pierce the shields. The cloak was great, and she clearly had the teeth to kick ass, but as The Chase showed once she was found it was relatively easy to bring her down. I thought a cool thing to do would be to go to the dyson sphere the Enterprise-D discovered; that was made of "carbon neutronium", whatever the hell that is meant to be. I had images of Sisko cutting sections out of the shell, a really long, slow process, and bolting them onto the Defiant. Only practical on that ship as it was so small... I thought it would have been a really cool thing to have this all but impregnable armour on the ship. And if you wanted her disabled you could always have the enemy hit the edge of a plate and blow it off without damaging it.

It is a bit fan wanky, though, I admit.

Kinda what they did, but without getting into the whole mass limitation thing of "carbon neutronium."
