Alan Dean Foster to write STXI sequel novel
As always, I get my info from TrekMovie. It's called "Refugees", so I'm guessing it's about the Vulcans.

I'm wondering how this will appeal to a mass audience. Obviously I know nothing about the potential plot, but this is certainly curious.Lazar wrote:As always, I get my info from TrekMovie. It's called "Refugees", so I'm guessing it's about the Vulcans.
Don't you hear my call, though you're many years away, don't you hear me calling you?

I'm on the fence about this. I'm afraid ADF will screw this up.

He's one of my favorite authors; I think if he's free to write outside of the confines of a script, he can turn out an enjoyable book.

I hope it is not about the Vulcans. I guess part of the sucess of the latest movie was that you didn't need to watch 400 episodes and 10 movies to get an idea what was going on.
I am not saying they should completly ignore the previous movie but I wouldn't build onto it if you know what I mean.
Incidently thats also why I still watch random episodes of star trek, yet never have watched an episode of prison break, 24, Lost etc twice. Each one stands on their own.

Sounds like its going to be a lot of angst.
What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Agreed; even his clunkers have some really enjoyable bits, and his movie novelizations have had a pretty high batting average. He's also meticulous about his research. Good choice, IMHO.Tsukiyumi wrote:He's one of my favorite authors; I think if he's free to write outside of the confines of a script, he can turn out an enjoyable book.

I'd bet that one of his instructions is to make the book self contained, something the next movie will not need to take into account. They're not about to clutter up the new continuity with stuff that the next movie will have to follow.

Well, this was inevitable to have more media about the universe.
