I don't get it. Why the hell would you screw up your ships primary weapon system......I'd wager money on a fan fic
They say that in the Army,

So would I. That makes zero sense. Even if the whole ship is full of pacifists, the phasers can and are used for non-combat situations. They can do more than just blow shit up.

I think that the single species ships should not be for standard enough (meaning most of humanoids) species like humans but for those species that scape from standard like a really stinky species or a nudist species or methane breathing species (even then they had benzites aboard Enterprise D)
