Everything on a starship looks modular to me honestly. From the bridge to the very saucer and stardrive sections on most ships. Warp cores CERTAINLY are. It only makes sense on ships that are EXPECTED to take damage.

Why would anyone design a ship without enough crew to man it? Or design a modular ship that needs extensive dock time to swap them out?

That's what I mean. The "modularity" should have a primary function of making repairs and maintenance easier, not for just swapping our blocks when a simple interior conversion will do.

Well I was just saying. Of course something like that may not be permanent.

On the other hand, troop transports sometimes may not carry troops...
