Sovereign
Promethius
Akira
Upgraded Galaxy
Defiant
I just don't believe a ship under 200 meters long could beat a ship with shields as powerful as the Galaxy or as well armed as the Akira. The Promethius and Akira both have good agility thus the Defiants agility counts for less against them. Against the Galaxy and Sov it just could get enough damage in before it went bang.
Ship Classifications.
Do you think a WWII battleship could take a modern day US destroyer? That's a bit extreme but it's the same idea. The defiant is newer than the old galaxy and has new high speed torpedo launchers, quantum torpedos, the almighty ablative armor, and their crazy capitol ship ripping pulse cannons.
I'm not saying that the defiant could take a sovereign, or even neccesarily an Akira, but I'd absolutly favor it against a non upgraded Galaxy.
And I should probably hunt around youtube, but again I'm pretty sure they've had the defiant doing some downright crazy stuff that would put it well ahead of anything except a Sovereign. Though to be fair writers are always prone to the "And then we'll have Chuck Norris beat the crap out of everybody and smash the trucks they came in on and it'll be AWSOME" type writing.

Also the scimitar would go here, IMO. It was outfitted for war and destruction, including a super weapon..Dreadnought - Dominion Dreadnought
No for the galaxy.. the galaxy wasn't a battleship, it was an all around ship, it could perform scientific missions, had the room for evacuations, or large amount of guests, and was well armed, this would go under something likeBattleship (with Light and Heavy sub-types, to differentiate between the ships that fall near the edges of the definition: Galaxy (pre- and post-refit), Nebula, Negh'Var, D'Deridex, Keldon (it would be rated so in the Cardassian fleet)
Heavy Cruiser. the Refit however might work here.
Same goes for the nebula, and the Keldon isn't even close to being on par with the other ships listed up there. It's too small.
I don't know if i'd agree with the Vor'cha here. the other two work thoughBattlecruiser: Dominion Battlecruiser, Sovereign (pre- and post-refit), Vor'Cha
hmm.. is this a real class? of course it works here. however it could work under another class, as it's size was just small?Pocket Battleship: Defiant
I don't think either of these fit. also the Prometheus goes up with the sovereign. It is outfitted with much of the same weaponry (the type XII Phasers) and two pulse fire quantum torpedo tubes, ablative armoring, and regenerative shielding. it's just a tough weaker then the sovereign in both size and firepower, but not by much.. and it's MVAM(Multi-Vector Attack Mode) gives it a interesting edge.Tactical Cruiser: Prometheus, Challenger
All in all you have to think more of what they were designed for, rather then just how big they are. the defiant is a great example of that
Despite being a light cruiser, or small in size. it's firepower is enough to cripple capital ships, combined with it's speed, it could take down 95 percent of the ships on this list, minus probably the prometheus, Sovereign, the post refit galaxy, and the scimitar. some of the other larger ships from other races might do it too..
Re: Ship Classifications.
LoL, Its not just that, its highly unlikely that term would even be used by SF standards. I actually argued that, and all I hear is "well prove it". To me its kind of obvious that its very unlikely that SF would have Pocket Battle flying around the galaxy. Also using a term that described a certain class of German warship from WW2. Unless I am wrong, I cannot believe a group of people actually believe this is a possibility.Azrael wrote:Dreadnought - Dominion Dreadnoughthmm.. is this a real class? of course it works here. however it could work under another class, as it's size was just small?Pocket Battleship: Defiant

I don't think the Defiant has the power of a battleship. Its powerfull, certainly. But not that powerful.

"Pocket Battleship" was a media term for the Panzerschiff the Germans built between the wars - 10,000 ton displacement (officially - in practice they were closer to 13,000), 6 11" guns. They were powerful by cruiser standards but any battleship would have had them for breakfast. The Defiant isn't that powerful, simply because it's too small. I doubt it could take out a Galaxy or Nebula either - they may not be tru warships, but they're a lot bigger, with the power to match.sunnyside wrote:I think "pocket battleship" means it's got the firepower of a battleship in the size of an escort.
Only two things are infinite - the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the universe: Albert Einstein.
Does anyone know how many times the Defiant was called a battleship and the same with Escort.Captain Seafort wrote:"Pocket Battleship" was a media term for the Panzerschiff the Germans built between the wars - 10,000 ton displacement (officially - in practice they were closer to 13,000), 6 11" guns. I know the was once a console form Voyager showig the Defiant as a Battleship (which was probably a mistake). But how many times was it referred to by name as a Battleship or an escort? It seems like thats what most people are going by or is there arguement.
