Captain's Log

Post by thelordharry »

Do you ever see anyone go to the toilet/bathroom in Trek? :)

I think the closest we ever got was somebody taking a sonic shower in VOY.

No. The Technical Manual places a toilet just off the bridge and has them in the crew quarters. Supposedly in the huge E-D cross-section in Engineering it does show what Berman called in a documentary "The ship's only bathroom, officially" and it was somewhere in that mess, but I sort of forget where. The TNG technical manual makes reference to waste extraction being broken down and reconverted into usable materials, but I do not recall if it shows where the bathrooms on the E-D are.
Don't you hear my call, though you're many years away, don't you hear me calling you?

To date, no toilet has ever been canonicaly observed on the Enterprise.

Star Trek V, you see one in the Brig.
Give a man a fire, and you keep him warm for a day. SET a man on fire, and you will keep him warm for the rest of his life...

I remember a few comical moments in ENT with Tucker becoming concerned that he'd be considered the 'poop engineer' (did I dream that?) and when him, Reed and Mayweather had to go look for people in deep caves and and they had to bring 'everything' out with them....but I never remember Kirk jumping up out of his seat, winking at Uhura and comically declaring that he was off for a 'captain's log'.

Hey, perhaps there was some sort of unspoken 'transport' going on when it came to this subject :)

In Kendall's absence, I will say it:

They had no bathrooms. That's why everyone was either full of sh*t, or full of piss and vinegar.

 But yes, Tucker complained about being the "poop engineer" which is hideously ironic. IIRC it was in Breaking The Ice.

Given that B'Elana needed a tricorder to ID shit and we've seen all of one toilet in all of Trek I'm of the opinion that everyone in the Federation has their anus surgically sealed up at birth.

Maybe the transporter is constantly beaming the crap out of their bowels and into the replicator stock?

I think something about toilets were mentioned in in the episode with Sisko building that solar sail...

And let's be honest, here. Waste recycling would be a sensible idea in space.

Would you want to eat something out of the replicator that was previously (ahem) your own 'produce'? :) Reminds me of 'recycled toilet paper' recycled from previous toilet paper, I hope not!?! :)

Kind of like the feeling you get when you sit down on a seat that has been pre-warmed by it's previous occupant...

Like they've got a choice?! They're a sealed environment light-years away from resupply in some cases. If I had to, yes.
