I was thinking that the power leechged by the compression would wash with that saved by not having as wide a beam; but it's probably six of one, half-a-dozen of the other.

Either way, it fits pretty well with how I imagine the sitch.

they Probably think that eliminating a subsystem of the ship would compensate for the decreased power output
