So they've turned Ryan into Clark, it seems.
I suppose it would be a dull series if they showed him as a CIA analyst.

Instead of turning Ryan into Clark, they should have gone with Jack Ryan Jr., it would have made more sense and been up to date. I think the most excitement Ryan Sr. got in the books was saving Chuck and Di from the IRA.

He did do a few other things. Went into south America in a gunship to rescue some US soldiers from drug barons, for instance.mwhittington wrote:Instead of turning Ryan into Clark, they should have gone with Jack Ryan Jr., it would have made more sense and been up to date. 'Jack Ryan' Review: The Spectacular Anti-'Homeland' We Really Needed
Ever since Homeland came onto the scene, the days of the action-driven espionage series have waned significantly. The message was clear in the post-post-9/11 age of television: more analysis, fewer guns. Jack Ryan not only swings the pendulum back the other way, it makes a statement there’s room for all comers to the genre.
Based on the acclaimed Tom Clancy character, Jack Ryan follows the eponymous character, this time played by John Krasinski, as he uncovers a terrorist network that leads back to a man he believes to be the next Bin Laden. Unfortunately, not everyone agrees.
To sum it up in a sentence, Jack Ryan gets everything right. It gets the human element right. It gets the tension right. It gets the drama right. It gets the action right. It nails everything anyone could want out of an espionage thriller right now.
Some are going to feel a need to stack it against the slew of Jack Ryan starring feature films that included Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine in decades past, but doing this would be a mistake because this show is its own thing that mixes the best elements of everything that came before it.
Krasinski’s Ryan is a perfect take on the character for 2018. He’s self-reliant and fully competent, but far from the superhuman most of the films portray him as. This Jack Ryan bleeds and shines in a way Baldwin and Ford’s were never designed for, and Affleck and Pine’s were never given the chance to do.
