Hawaii Five-0

Post by Tsukiyumi »

So, the new Hawaii Five-0 premiered three weeks ago, and as skeptical as I was about another reboot, I figured I'd give it a shot because I like a lot of the actors in it. Turns out, it's created by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci; the same guys who wrote the new Star Trek and co-creators of Fringe, and the episodes so far have been great. I'm not a fan of the procedural cop drama genre; this show is great for me because it really isn't one, at least not the type of repetitive schlock as CSI or Law & Order.

The acting, stories, action, and setting have already sold me on this after three episodes. I kept waiting for something to go wrong with the setup, but even the homages that could come off as cheesy (Book 'em, Danno), are in the plot for a reason.

I'm honestly a bit shocked that I'd like it as much as I do.

If anyone gets the chance to watch it (Hulu has it; it sends you to CBS.com), I recommend it.

I seriously dig it. Great cast, good writing, realistic action.

I'm not sure if CBS will work any better for our foreign friends, though.

Loving it too. Yeah its cheesy and a bit silly at times, but damn its a fun show.

The main two characters are great together, and Grace Park is well, Grace Park. I do think having a 30 second scene of her in a Bikini in the opening episode just so they can put it in the opening credits was rather cynical of the producers. And by cynical I mean of course pretty damned clever.

Good actions scenes too.

I'm actually liking it more than I thought I would. There was some nostalgia at first that got me to watch the pilot, and Grace Park's ass that got me to watch the second episode, but I'm really starting to get into it. There's something beyond the usual buddy cop show going on but I can't quite put my finger on it just yet.

I guess I'll give it a shot, but I can really see myself having difficulty watching a Jack Lord-free Hawaii 5-0.

I tend to look at it like I do Nikita (the 90's series and the newest one), or Highlander the TV series. Bugger all to do with the original source material, but if you take them for what they are they're good shows in their own right.

Speaking of Nikita, think I'll start a thread for that, the new series has been pretty entertaining.
