Rama Revealed

Post by Sionnach Glic »

I posted this link before in the Youtube thread in FC, but I felt that it deserved a little more attention, as I think Tsu was the only one to see it before it was buried in the thread.

So, someone did an incredible computer-generated model of the interior of Rama, from Clarke's Rendezvous With Rama and its sequels. It's here on Youtube, and it's definitely worth a watch. There's also a website with a "making of" PDF and a few pictures of the model, including shots of the Rama at "night" and "winter".

For those of you who've never heard of it, Rama is basically a fully enclosed O'Neill Cylinder, 50km long and 20km in diameter from the above mentioned novel by Clarke.

Yeah, I saw it. Love it.

The book ruled, BTW, for anyone here who hasn't checked it out. There was also a mid-90's puzzle game based on it that I liked.

Love projects like this - combining art and technology to recreate fictional words / objects. I once created a (very very) basic model of Star City from 3001, with everything to scale, just so I could get an idea of the size of the thing.

Rama is one of my fave fictional worlds, though only really liked the first book.

It's best you don't try to remember them.
