Eh? Gaunt's been seconded.

John Sheridan of Babylon 5. He's loyal to his people and willing to stand up for what's right.

Sheridan always annoyed me. I preferred Sinclair by a mile, even if Sinclair was a bit...weird.

That's why I like Gaunt. Completely and unfailingly dedicated to his men, and equally willing to stand up to wrongheaded superiors. Plus, he was a very able tactical commander and hell in a fight.

Indeed. The guy turned the Battle of Vervunhive, an almost certain defeat, into a last minute victory despite being outnumbered (litteraly) thousands of times by the enemy. Hell, if he'd been in charge from the start he may very well have been able to prevent Vervunhive becoming a shattered ruin of a city.

Fixed. With the unfortunate downside that it wipes the previous votes.

WH40k - he's the commander of the Tanith 1st and only - Gaunt's Ghosts. Thus far I've only read the first 2 1/2 of the series, but I've found that a) they're a bloody good read and b) Gaunt is both a good commander and hard as nails. :)

I'm gonna have to put that on my "to read list". Are there individual titles or a series name or just anything WH40K?

Gaunt's Ghosts.

It's a fairly long series of novels, but they're all excellent reads.

"Gaunt's Ghosts" is a series. I'm working my way through "The Founding", which is a three-in-one anthology of the first three books - "First and Only", "Ghostmaker" and "Necropolis". Either 1st&only or the anthology would be the best place to start.
