I'd think it a lot more manly if the hunter took the deer out with a knife or his bare hands to accomplish the feat of feeding his family.
Give a man a fire, and you keep him warm for a day. SET a man on fire, and you will keep him warm for the rest of his life...

To me, there are two kinds of hunters. In Hawaii we see alot of the kind of hunter that Deep and Tyyr talk about. We have wild pigs in our forested parts. With the cost of living so high in Hawaii, a decent number of men will go pig hunting to supplement their food. Its part of the Hawaiian culture. They go out on foot, shoot, kill, gut, and carry out the pig. This is hunting for food as it should be.

You've also got the idiots (sad to say alot of this class is the military stationed out here) who go out, get drunk, and hunt just to kill something. I've got a friend that goes pig hunting every month or two, and tells me that he finds dead pig carcasses rotting on the earth, usually with their heads cut off (trophies I suppose)

That kind of hunting does NOT strike me as manly.

My Grandpa used to bow hunt deer. A step closer to that, I think. :)

Aye there is a good reason why our ancestors used spear, bows and slings to hunt.

Yeah, would take quite a brave man to do that, I would think.

More like a stupid one.

Deer might be herbivores but a hoof to the head could snap your neck.
