Sliders
Sliders
So Hulu.com now has all seasons of Sliders on it. I remember loving it growing up until they got rid of Gimli and put in the hot girl (why they didn't just add the hot girl?). Anyway the characters so far are really awesome. I'm only finished with the pilot but it brings back memories. Go check it out on hulu.com!
How many Minbari does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.

Wo! Sliders had a Dwarf Lord in it? I don't remember that for some reason ......

Re: Sliders
It started strong but it faded as it went along.
Still, I really liked it in the early going. I'll have to check this out.

Re: Sliders
I watched the first season or so religiously, and loved it despite a bit of goofyness.
In later years I dipped in and out and oh my lord, did the stupid pile up.

Aye....they started changing cast members and so forth so often, after missing a few I just gave up. And then some of the later storylines.....

They look like Phyllis Diller,
and walk like Frankenstein.

Same here - IIRC correctly the Beeb showed the first few series, then dropped it. From what I've read of the following series they binned it at the perfect moment.Tyyr wrote:It started strong but it faded as it went along.

Re: Sliders
Seasons 1 - 3 were really fun to see. After that though, in spite of some good eps, the show lost itself.

The Kromags. Just... didn't like them.
yeah, strong start and cool concept. But it petered out in the end.

Re: Sliders
For some reason the episode I remember the best was the one where America was still under the monarchy. The Duke of New York or somesuch? That was great.

I liked the one where sometime in America's past J. Edgar Hoover became president.
"All this has happened before --"
"But it doesn't have to happen again. Not if we make up our minds to change. Take a different path. Right here, right now."

I can't remember for the life of me.....from the season one group that left at the same time, only the singer stuck around for the whole run, correct?

I'm fairly certain you're right. The Crying Man, IIRC. Former Motown singer?Mark wrote:I can't remember for the life of me.....from the season one group that left at the same time, only the singer stuck around for the whole run, correct?

Re: Sliders
Yeah. Though given the dangers they were dealing with it's not too bizarre that they'd be losing people all the time.
The show was fun in that it let you indulge in rampant "What if?" and then play with that for an episode. Like Mark says, "What if the US lost the revolutionary war and was still under the Monarchy?" That's a fun hour of TV. Later on though they tried to bring in some weird meta-story and it just didn't work. It might have been nice to see them do two and three show mini-arcs with worlds before leaving. Get a bit deeper into the what-ifs.
Another one of those shows where you love the concept but the execution just falls apart.

Re: Sliders
Apparently it was the victim of massive interference from the studio, so much that in the end the senior show runners quit in protest.
Towards the end the producers began to suspect that the studio had given up on the show and stopped even reading the scripts. Rumour has it they decided to test this and put a scene in where a gun is pointed at a character's head... which was a BIG no-no for the studio and would normally be picked up. When it wasn't, they decided they could do whatever they wanted from then on. But by then it was so close to the end as to make no difference.
