Yech. Looks like a dumbed-down aggro failed take on William Gibson.
I can't stand nothing dull
I got the high gloss luster
I'll massacre your ass as fast

Replace "watch?v=" with "embed/" so the link looks like this:Coalition wrote:Behold, the wonders of in-movie technology:

Well that certainly looks like it could be silly fun. Or, you know, terrible.

I’m leaning more toward the latter.

Re: Upgrade (coming June 1)
Well, I watched it. And... it was not what I expected.
What I expected was that this would be an excuse to have all sorts of action scenes in which his computer chip moves him around like a puppet... and pretty much that would be it, him chasing down the people that shot him and his wife and offing them all.
And yeah, that stuff is in there, but not nearly as dominant as you might expect. It's a much smarter movie than that, and spends a fair time exploring the issues around having a computer that can control your body. I won't go into spoilers, because it is a somewhat twisty tale.
But it explores issues like what happens if the chip starts to go wrong for one reason or another. Or what happens if the chip thinks he needs to do something to avoid negative outcomes, but he doesn't want to do it - bearing in mind that a negative outcome for him is also a negative outcome for it.
And yeah, there are cyberpunk elements going on here. It's set in a future world - not super far, but far enough for noticeable differences that impact on the plot. This is no terrible dystopia or anything, but they do show a lot of the kinds of changes we're expecting - drones all over the place, driverless cars, and implants in the human body, of course.
I don't want to oversell it. This isn't a film people are going to be talking about in ten years time, or even next year really. It's not going to change cinema or make us all think profound thoughts that we never before thought about.
But that said, it's a solid little B movie that's better than you expect it to be from the trailer. The chip control thing does give it a somewhat different and interesting take on the action, which is to its credit. It's a decent and somewhat plausible depiction of a near future, the acting is fine, the story is pretty serviceable, and all in all it's a decent watch. I recommend it as worth catching if you get the chance.
