Live action, lesser-quality “Ghost in the Shell.”

Is she supposed to have freakishly large uncanny-valley-eyes, or is that just how the actress looks?

I thought that was a nod to the anime which this film should properly be.

A live action version of an anime movie. Those always do so well.

Actually, I think there was a legitimate live-action version of “Ghost in the Shell,” maybe with Scarlett Johansson? This is just a rip-off.

It may have been legitimate, but it sure didn't make a whole lot of money. And I have no idea how it stacked up to the anime, which I have never seen, but as an action movie in its own right, it sucked balls.

I’ve never seen it; but the anime was considered one of the seminal anime films of its era, along with titles such as Akira and Ninja Scroll. I can only imagine the live version sucked in attempting to portray the Blade-Runner-esque types of existential questions that the anime posed. I meant “legitimate” as in “intended and authorized to replicate the source material.”

From visionary filmmakers James Cameron (AVATAR) and Robert Rodriguez (SIN CITY), comes ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, an epic adventure of hope and empowerment. When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize, she is taken in by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo (Keean Johnson) offers instead to help trigger her memories. But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past – she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control. If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she’s grown to love. In Theaters December 21, 2018

I have never read the original Battle Angel Alita manga, but in 1993 it was made into an OAV called “Battle Angel.” This film better be as good as it looks and more to live up.

Remember when James Cameron slammed Wonder Woman for falling to be the strong female character?

James Cameron Calls ‘Wonder Woman’ a ‘Step Backwards’ for Female Protagonists
“All of the self-congratulatory back-patting Hollywood’s been doing over ‘Wonder Woman’ has been so misguided,” he told the outlet in an interview to promote the “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” re-release. “She’s an objectified icon, and it’s just male Hollywood doing the same old thing!” “I’m not saying I didn’t like the movie but, to me, it’s a step backwards,” he continued. “Sarah Connor was not a beauty icon. She was strong, she was troubled, she was a terrible mother, and she earned the respect of the audience through pure grit. And to me, [the benefit of characters like Sarah] is so obvious. I mean, half the audience is female!”
Well, this movie better be the end-all answer to that claim. In hindsight, maybe Cameron was early promoting this movie?

He would have been better served with a female protagonist, rather than a female simulacrum.

Sorry, but those eyes are just weird and offputting. Uncanny valley territory.

I don't know why, but I really want this one to be good. I've never even experienced any other Alita fiction, either.
