What movies have scared you (at any age)?

Post by T'Pau »

War of the Worlds (original): that roving eye on a stalk...*shudder*.

Nightmare on Elm Street: Was unlike any other slasher type film, and creeped me out from the get go.

Alien: I'd only seen the promo of the egg cracking, so was completely unaware of what was to follow. Leaving the theatre, I had to check the back seat of the car to be sure nothing was hiding behind the front seats.

I'm sure as Halloween draws closer, and more classic horror flicks appear on tv, I'll add more to this list.

What scary movies have caused you to check the back seat or leave the lights on?

The Omen - creeped me out as a kid

The Fog - also creepy. The original, not the crappy remake.

The Wicker Man! But again, see the original. Not the bees!!!!

Halloween - the film that launched a thousand imitators. Scared the hell out of me the way Michael just kept coming

Alien - saw it as a teen, scariest thing ever

Scared? Can't really think of any.

Frightened? Conspiracy.

The Conjuring. At least the first half, when the being was messing the girls. My legs do that jumping thing in bed as I fall asleep, and there's this odor on SUmmer midnight that just comes out from the sewers, and that got to me because this is "based ona true story." However once the thing was revealed to be a witch, it became a lot less scary. Unseen malevolent demons is scary to me. Witches? Not so much. I'm not exaggerating. The movie went from me stopping it in the middle because I was scared, to going, "A witch!? WTF is this?"

As a child, pretty much any supernatural horror movie scared me.

Something Wicked This Way Comes. I was 9 when I saw it and I had nightmares for a week.

Saw 2, Xavier's test. A giant pit of needles that is in the background of every shot, and the tension ramps up due to the music and arguing. And then . . .

I nearly left the the theater at that scene

I saw a movie when I was a kid way back around '80 or '81. It was about this young guy, early 20s, real spoiled brat who goes through his trust fund by the time he graduates college on all the frivalous things young guys spend money on, who killed his father or grandfather for the family mansion and fortune. In a hallway of the big house was a painting of the manor and the family graveyard. A nighttime painting. One day he saw his grandfather's grave on the painting, which it should not be since it was done before his death. And everyday when the guy walked by the painting, he saw his grandfather rise from the grave a little bit...first day a hand, the next the forearm, etc., until he was fully out of the grave and walking toward the door...a little bit each day, until he was pounding on the door (in the picture). Of course no one believed him all this time. And when he was pounding (real pounding) on the door, the guy had a heart attack and died of fright.

It turned out the pounding on the door turned out to be the butler, who took advantage of the situation since he would have inherited everything as the butler and no other family members. He saw the guy was going crazy, and did things along the way to push him over the edge. After he took possession of the house and wealth, he returned home to celebrate. But he looked at the painting and saw the grave of the young guy, and saw a hand come out of the grave. He started screaming and the movie ended.

I have no idea of the title of this movie, and it was the only time I ever saw it. But I was about 10 or 11 and it was probably my first horror movie, and it scared the hell out of me. Even writing this down is giving me the shivers.

Yes there was, by DISNEY no less! Back in 1983 starring Jason Robards, Jonathan Price, and Diane Ladd, among others.

Another good spooky movie was House of the Long Shadows, starring Christopher Lee. I was only 8 when I saw that one.

Predator. Age 5. Saw it and then going to bed I would be paranoid at any slight movement in the dark.
