From the producers of THE KING’S SPEECH comes the feature film adaptation of Shakespeare's Scottish play about General Macbeth (Michael Fassbender) whose ambitious wife (Marion Cotillard) urges him to use wicked means in order to gain power of the throne over the sitting king.

Re: Macbeth Trailer
There's a lot of Shakespeare film adaptations that are really awful, but this looks intriguing.

I really dislike the ones where they use more or less original verbiage/language but set it in a modern time.

Are you suggesting that they change the text. It's been done before, but, it wouldn't really be Shakespeare, just something based upon it.Jim wrote:I really dislike the ones where they use more or less original verbiage/language but set it in a modern time.

Re: Macbeth Trailer
I love Kenneth Branagh's "Much ado about nothing".
The Franco Zeffirelli "Hamlet" with Mel Gibson was also very good.
Baz Luhrmann's "Romeo + Juliet" was OK, but not as good as I expected.

I am saying when they set the story in modern day NYC or LA or London but use the original writings. To me, it simply does not work, at all.

I didn't like it either. But I understood they did it to be different from the other adoptions.Jim wrote:IanKennedy wrote:Are you suggesting that they change the text. The Lion King is basically Hamlet with Lions.
What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

I enjoyed it, although I porbably wouldn't say that I loved it.IanKennedy wrote:I love Kenneth Branagh's "Much ado about nothing".
I enoyed that also, (I hate to say it, but) almost as much as Olivier's.The Franco Zeffirelli "Hamlet" with Mel Gibson was also very good.
I thought it was downright awful.Baz Luhrmann's "Romeo + Juliet" was OK, but not as good as I expected.
One you might have missed was Jonathan Miller's adaptation of "Othello," starring Sir Anthony Hopkins as Othello and Bob Hoskins (in his best role ever) as Iago. Absolutely f'ing fantastic, and I've seen Avery Brooks and Andre Braugher perform "Othello."

I must admit I was surprised how good he was. Helena Bonham Carter can sure play madMikey wrote:I enoyed that also, (I hate to say it, but) almost as much as Olivier's.
