Bond 24 is SPECTRE
4th December 2014

MGM, Sony and EON Productions have confirmed the principal cast and title for 007's 24th adventure

PRESS RELEASE: James Bond Producers, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli today released the title of the 24th James Bond adventure, SPECTRE. The film, from Albert R. Broccoli's EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment, is directed by Sam Mendes and stars Daniel Craig, who returns for his fourth film as Ian Fleming's James Bond 007. SPECTRE begins principal photography on Monday, December 8, and is set for global release on November 6, 2015.

Along with Daniel Craig, Mendes presented the returning cast, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw and Rory Kinnear as well as introducing Christoph Waltz, Léa Seydoux, Dave Bautista, Monica Bellucci and Andrew Scott. Mendes also revealed Bond's sleek new Aston Martin, the DB10, created exclusively for SPECTRE.

A cryptic message from Bond's past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organisation. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.

The 007 production will be based at Pinewood Studios, and on location in London, Mexico City, Rome and Tangier and Erfoud, in Morocco. Bond will return to the snow once again, this time in Sölden, along with other Austrian locations, Obertilliach, and Lake Altaussee.

Commenting on the announcement, Wilson and Broccoli said, "We're excited to announce Daniel's fourth installment in the series and thrilled that Sam has taken on the challenge of following on the success of SKYFALL with SPECTRE.".

Written by John Logan and Neal Purvis & Robert Wade, Director of Photography is Hoyte van Hoytema and Editor is Lee Smith. Production Designer, Dennis Gassner returns along with Costume Designer, Jany Temime and Composer, Thomas Newman. Action Specialist, Alexander Witt is the 2nd Unit Director. Stunt Coordinator is Gary Powell, SFX Supervisor is Chris Corbould, and Visual Effects Supervisor is Steve Begg.

Skyfall, the 23rd James Bond film, was a worldwide box office phenomenon, opening #1 in 70 territories around the world, taking over $1.1 billion worldwide and setting a new all-time box office record in the UK by becoming the first film to take over £100 million.

The James Bond Movies Had to Go Darker Because "Mike Myers f—ed us"
http://io9.com/the-james-bond-movies-ha ... 1667143453
From an interview about Skyfall, Craig explains that wasn't just a general trend toward gritty reboots that caused the massive tonal shift from Die Another Day and Casino Royal. It was also how much the old tropes had become jokes:

The truth of it is that I always had this plan in my head is that we got to make them and begin them again and bring all that back in, but it had to happen the way it did. I can't see it happening any other way. We had to destroy the myth because Mike Myers fucked us - I am a huge Mike Myers fan, so don't get me wrong - but he kind of fucked us; made it impossible to do the gags. What I am proudest of in Skyfall is the lightness of touch we've been able to bring to back into it but not lose the drama and the action.

The Austin Powers movies not only took aim at every recognizable element of James Bond films, they were huge in pop culture and may have overshadowed some of the later Pierce Brosnan Bond outings, which came out in the same time period. So, says Craig, they had to cut ties with all of those things when Casino Royale came out.

If they could combine it with Dr Stephen Hawking being the SPECTRE leader, that would be interesting. 007 tries to parse the artificial voice they hear giving orders, trying to find a human voice in the background that is being hidden by the mechanical voice (i.e. the human speaks, the machine translates). But for this SPECTRE leader, there is no human voice.

All the Blofeld/Hawking has going for him is his intelligence. Hawking/Blofeld as Lex Luthor to Bond as Superman.

Amen. Woe betide whoever decided to give the Beamers the time of day.

I haven't found it in me to care much about the latest Bond films. Something about Craig irritates me and I can't work out why.

Hear, hear, brother. I thought I was the only one. I wouldn't even go so far as to say that Craig irritates me; rather, that I just find him rather... well, un-Bond-like. If Moore's Bond went a little too far toward the suave and debonair and too far away from machismo and rawness, then Craig goes too far the other way.

I suspect half the problem is that I've grown up with the suave, debonair Bond.

And yet I think they're some of the best ever made. It takes all types. IMHO Casino Royale could be the best Bond movie ever.

I always thought the Casino Royale Bond was the guy Bond should be. He is, after all, a professional killer. A man who can plausibly put bullets into people as a lifestyle should be a hard man with a cruel edge.

I have all the Bond films on DVD except "You Only Live Twice" which my bastard brother lost. I love Bond, and I like the way Daniel Craig portrays him. Casino Royale definitely ranks in the top few Bond films.

That explains it better than I could. Before Craig's Bond there was a quality about many depictions of the character that was sometimes a bit cartoonish (if that's the right word, since I can't quite find a perfect word). Some of the sillier gadgets played into it also.

Craig? This is the only male lead of Casino Royale of whom I can think:

Not sure to which Graham was referring but that was before my time.

GK was definitely referring to the modern version with Daniel Craig, but the real Casino Royale was made in 1967, starred David Niven (as you can see above,) and was a comedy/spoof. Plus, it was great.
