Jurassic World
Jurassic World
Well. They've released an ad for the trailer.
Link
I'm cautiously optimistic, but the lack of the any of the original characters, John Williams, and Micheal Crichton. Though I will concede that Giacchino is pretty good and he does seem to be bringing in the original melodies.
Though I just don't understand why they'd be allowed to breed carnivores again, I mean Isla Sorna has a naval cordon around it per Lost World doesn't it? And there's the whole San Diego incident. And how did they get the DNA, did they start from scratch again with more preserved mosquitos? Did they acquire Ingen's research or has Ingen become "unbankrupt"I know it's just a trailer but I hope they bring thse things up in the film.
Also, the CGI looks a bit off, but hopefully that's just because it's the trailer for the trailer.

Re: Jurassic World
IDK, the first one went off the rails away from the intent of the novel badly enough, and that was with Crichton's help.

Re: Jurassic World
Meh. I never much cared for Crichton's philosophy/politics, so I didn't mind that the films largely ignored it.

Re: Jurassic World
The problem I had with the divergence from the novel is that a film based on that novel automatically purports to be about mathematical philosophy and the "science" bit of science fiction. Instead, we got a shoot-em-up with dinosaurs.Graham Kennedy wrote:Meh. I never much cared for Crichton's philosophy/politics, so I didn't mind that the films largely ignored it.

Re: Jurassic World
I guess I'm a bit of a hypocrite on the whole book to movie thing. If it's a book I've read and care about, then deviating from it bothers me. If not, then not. I don't really care that they ignored what Crighton was talking about... but Starship Troopers drives me into conniptions.

Re: Jurassic World
Ehh I liked Starship Troopers for what it is. A fun shooter upper, explosions, and carnage with some boobs on the side.

Re: Jurassic World
To me the film treatments of Jurassic Park and Starship Troopers compared to the source novels are one and the same.

Re: Jurassic World
I have a kind of love-hate relationship with the film. I'd be right there with you, if only it hadn't been called "Starship Troopers". Call it "The Bug War" or something instead and change the names and a couple of scenes, and you'd never know it was based on the book. I'd like it a LOT more in that case, for the reasons you state.McAvoy wrote:Ehh I liked Starship Troopers for what it is. A fun shooter upper, explosions, and carnage with some boobs on the side.
But every time I watch it, I just find myself wishing they'd made a film of the book instead. I love that book!

Re: Jurassic World
Eventually they will I think.
Everything gets a second chance in Hollywood especially something big budgeted.

Re: Jurassic World
There is a remake of ST in the works. I hope it's more like the book.

Re: Jurassic World
I read the book (though as a rather young lad) and while I was aware that the movie left out many things, I could quite apprecite them editing the thing down instead of making a three and a half hour monstrosity where pretty much every critic would say it was too long ask if it's really reasonable that they'd decide to attack the raptor nest.Mikey wrote:IDK, the first one went off the rails away from the intent of the novel badly enough, and that was with Crichton's help.
What is the "point" that you think was left out in the movie?

Re: Jurassic World
1) Not keen on the music
2) The river scene with the boats. Seriously? Everyone remember what happened when the stegosaurus were disturbed in JP2? Seems far too dangerous to allow that type of adventure.
3) I'm not keen on the idea of this new genetically engineered super monster. It smacks of b-movie explicitly evil monster, rather than hungry predator. That being said it is the logical OOU follow on, and matches the modifications in the first novel. kind of.
4) That motorbike scene better be an adaption of one of the few novel scenes not made to film from the second book. Because the idea they seem to be suggesting of a pack of tame Raptors is frankly ridiculous.

Re: Jurassic World
It is probably a raptor the size of a Rex. Or a mix with that stinosaurus or whatever it was in #3.
Ugh... do not thump the Book of G'Quan...
