Pacific Rim

Post by Tyyr »

So, anyone else incredibly jazzed about this movie? With the new trailer (I swear I'll get a link up tonight... maybe, but it's on Youtube's front page last night) I have moved from skeptical to excited. Guillermo del Toro is directing and this is the kind of thing that's right in his wheel house. July can't get here fast enough.

Disaster movie?
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Giant monsters coming up out of the ocean to smash our cities. To fight them we build building sized mecha to fist fight them.

I just wanna see the spectrum of monsters in the movie. Apparently sent by aliens to kill all the humans so that the aliens can move in... NICE!

The trailer shows off one Ghidorah look alike, one headed, and most of the monsters look reminiscent of those type of beasties with a more detailed and updated look. There was one with multiple legs and so on. This is Guillermo's love letter to kaiju movies. Given his involvement I expect them to be pretty impressive.

Is this the one that has GLADOS for the computer? If so, yeah I'm seeing it.

Yep, it's GLaDOS, Guillermo asked Valve if he could use her and they said yes. Same voice actress, some post processing.

Typical, You wait for ages for a film you actually want to see in the cinema, and then 5 come along at once.

Well no need to build giant robots. Go ask Japan to borrow Godzilla. Problem solved.

Just, but they would build giant mechs anyway.

They posted some of the "stats" of the various giant mechs on their Facebook page and based off their own official posts Australia kicks everyone's ass. The thing is fast, armored, and armed and has killed 11 kaiju to everyone else's combined 15. Japan, father of both giant mecha and giant monsters? Weakest mech and only 2 kills.
