I agree. I highly doubt that punching Godzilla is the only way to go.

Armor piercing missiles or even shells like a battleship might do the job. Though I would think the size of Godzilla would require a lot to bring them down.

One of those penetrating bombs dropped from high altitude would probably be simpler. The GBU-57 can penetrate something like 60 feet of solid concrete before detonating two tons of explosives. I can't see even a 200 foot high monster surviving that. The hardest part of killing them would be cleaning up afterwards...

Giant rubber monster or not, wouldn't a simple hyperbaric warhead do the job nicely?

I suppose, given that they are from a different dimension and all, that they might be made of some sort of super strong organic exoskeleton thing that bombs can't damage.

But then if that's so, being hit with a bit metal fist probably wouldn't do any damage either.

All I can think of now is the tagline from this comic book cover:

Bright lights, radiation, high sounds. You can assume these monsters have some senses we can mess with, blind em, deafen them, then trip them over.
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

So it turns out the many page argument was for naught, as the duel pilot had nothing to do with efficiency.
The information was too much for a single pilot to handle, and thus would hemorrhage their brain.
Also, they explain in the intro (I don't consider this a spoiler as its covered in about 5 minutes) that they did use conventional weapons, but they simply couldn't kill the things fast enough before they reached cities. So they needed something big enough to intercept and actually slow them down (for all the good that does them).
No trees were killed in transmission of this message. However, some electrons were mildly inconvenienced.

Bill Watterson wrote:"It says 'Japanese Cast'...two big rubbery monsters slug it out over major metropolitan centres in a battle for world supremacy...doesn't that sound great?"

So I bought it today and I just found out, it didn't bomb. It made a lot of money.

Something I realized but never mentioned was the Wall they were talking about. Unless they were filling it with concrete or something, there was no way those beams we saw could hold back a giant monster 250 feet tall. Take a close look at the construction when you get the chance.

Yeah, Pac Rim didn't hit it big here but it blew things up overseas so it made plenty of money. Guillermo is already writing the sequel. Picking up my copy this afternoon.

The wall was just monumentally stupid. If they'd lined the top of it with kaiju killing weapons like Gipsy's plasma cannon then maybe but just a wall?
