Birdshit... literally, they had birdshit caked into Radagast's hair and beard. Why? Because Radagast the brown is a drug user. How do I know? Because Saruman told us, the audience, in the meeting of the White Council. A meeting of Gandalf, Galadriel, Elrond, and Saruman with Thorin (Heir to Erebor) nearby, and they take that screen time to talk about the dietary habits of Radagast. Well, Radagast also has a birds nest in his hair, under his hat.

About the Goblins... what the hell? And about the Goblin king... I threw up a little. Honestly, I liked his lines the best of all the characters.

The amazing speaking abilites of the goblins surprised me a bit.

I did like that Galadriel was basically completely ignoring the fact that Saruman was speaking at all...

The moie didn't have the ... scale... that the first LOTR movie did. It seemed very small... It seemed much more of a "look at what we can make the goblins do" (speak etc) kind of thing rather than a proper movie.

I liked it.

However, unlike the trilogy, it seemed so fake. Did they even use models or is it all CGI (even the background)?

I gotta admit, I laughed rather heartily at the almost... conciliatory way the Goblin King took being gutted. "That'll do it."

Are people watching this in 48 frames per second? Everyone seems to be raving about how awful and artificial and plastic it makes everything look. I'd be interested to hear opinions.

That is exactly what I heard. Everything looks like plastic.

The three-D threw me off. It really took me out and made everything look all artificial.

No idea what FPS it was shown in, I went to my movie shitty 2D theater, and the movie looked shitty. Even if it didn't look shitty I still couldn't get behind what they were trying to show me.

I liked it, but I have to say I felt the creatures felt less real than in the original LotR trilogy...
Although, I too saw it in a 2D cinema since 3D makes my gf nauseous...

I dont like the Orcs in this one, they were much better in LOTR, and the White Orc and the fat Goblin King are a joke.

Radagast... I like what they did with him but I think they over played it just a bit to much, I would have had him be apathetic to his apperance as he thinks himself above it not nieve about bird shit in his hair.

Also the Dwarves dont feel as dwarfish as I feel they should. They seem to manish in their ways.

Also Bilbo doesnt seem as Hobbitish as he should, he just seem like another guy.

I did like the council intteraction but think it should have been a bit more formal and with a few more people, a true meeting to discuss the coming darkness.

I had never read the books. From Fellowship I thought that Moria's fall was rather recent as Gimli was shocked by the dwarfs being destroyed and it being over run with goblins/orcs. This movie points out that it had already fallen ... quite a ways before Fellowship.

The mountain city in The Hobbit isn't Moria, it's Erebor (it's a different dwarf city)

I thought that they actually referred to it as Moria in the movie...

From lotr.wikia... I think that I was justifiably confused on the identity of the location...

Book: "IV - A Journey in the Dark - They travel to the gates of Moria, where they have to deal with a sea creature in the lake in front of it. Gandalf eventually opens the doors by speaking the correct password. They reach the tomb of Balin."

Film: "The Fellowship sets out and tries to pass over the Misty Mountains by the mountain pass of Caradhras, but they are stopped by Saruman's wizardry. At Gimli's insistence, they decide to seek safety and travel under the mountain through The Mines of Moria."

Iguess the only confusing part is that Gimli was totally unaware that Moria was a dead city for so long.
