Who else anticipates going to see this one? My mother is big into Fantasy literature; she made sure that The Hobbit and LOTR were on the reading list for myself and my sisters in childhood. Actually, since she's so interested a trip to the cinema will be part of my Christmas gift to her.

And where's Thorin when you need him? We can't let this go without input from our resident Tolkein geek!

Looking forward to it. Given that the book is isn't anywhere near the scope of the triologie I hope they stay more true to it than the movies did, on the other hand it's a childrens book....so...I am not expecting THAT much other than being entertained and that they play heavily on LotR nostalgia.

My friends and I shall be making, how shall I say, a rather expected journey to go see it. Also, the Hobbit Lego sets have come out. Must... resist... urge to buy...

Bit concerned about the length. Always thought the LOTR triology films were too short by half, but the Hobbit is a much shorter book. Not sure theres enough there to stretch out to 6 hours.

I believe it was said that the writers/producers went into the material included in the Appendices of LotR to tell much more of the story of Middle Earth before the trilogy.

Or something like that.

And they include the white council which is onyl talked about never seen.

yeah, there's a lot from supplementary material making its way into these films.

I used to love LEGO when I was younger; alas, I gave away the whole mixed box I'd collected years ago. I haven't seen the contents of this Hobbit set but I assume there's Smaug the dragon?

I love LEGO so long as there isnt thse big bits already shaped like an object.
