The hulk, in this Marvel cinematic universe has a bit of a split personality. If Banner chooses to change he is in control, see battle of New York. If he changes purely due to outside influence then the Hulk is an out of control rampaging beast, see fight against Black Widow and Thor on the carrier. There are a few shots of Banner in distress. Something could be affecting his mind in the storyline.
