Question about the opening of Enterprise episodes...

Post by Sanehouse »

In that video montage of the ships that came before the NX Enterprise, does anyone know what class of ship was shown right before the NX? It doesn't look like the NX-Alpha or the NX-Beta. It's the one that comes after the Phoenix.

The one that swoops overhead at 1:08?

I was just about to say that it's the NX itself, but I've just realised that the engine configuration is all wrong. I've never noticed it before, but it must be a completely different ship. Perhaps one of the earlier warp-capable explorers? I don't think its class was ever designated.

Also, watching the ENT intro again just reminded me about how they completely failed to include any non-American achievments.

And given that we've seen a grand total of two brits and 3 or 4 asians in Trek so far I think we know who won.

The fact that France seems to have been repopulated by wealthy English land owners is another nice indication. :P

It was apparently intended to be a prototype of what GK's labelled the Neptune-class.

Reed didn't really have a lot of competition.

Not even close - he simply had a professional interest in being good at his job and demonstrating that he was good at it.

Professional interest, but personally he seemed far to gungho.

Then again, I've never met a RN weapons officer. or any other weapons officer.

And being a borderline psychopath just happened to help a lot with that.

He's the tactical officer. His training has focused largely on using weapons to solve problems. The expectation should be that his default solution to a problem is, "Shoot it."

Wasn't the HMS Enterprize an English vessel? If I recall correctly, it was shown at the beginning of the Enterprise opening credits.

Yeah. Looking at the pictures of it on DITL, it does seem to be the same class of ship I was thinking of. Also, its year of commission places it between the Phoenix and the NX, so it's right where it should be in that pretty little display of Earth spacecraft.
