Indeed, by TNG it seems to have changed from "don't screw up pre-warp societies by flaunting godlike abilities" to "don't interfere in anyone else's arguments, even when it severely damages your own interests".

The Prime Directive. Precludes interference in the normal development of a society. The Prime Directive has 47 suborders. When dealing with primitive cultures, the Prime Directive forbids any mention of life on other worlds.

The 47 sub orders would be interesting but I doubt they exist. Just mentioned.

I wonder if they have Prime Directive 101 in the academy.

I see, I also see that his point was ignored. The Federation could have intervened, thanks to the Cardies (and the Bajorans) actually having FTL travel.

Exactly. They "do the right thing" when it comes to groups they can crush with little or no effort, but go on about the whole "we can't interfere" crap when it comes to groups that could give them a bloody nose.
