A simple thank you

Post by Meste17 »

If the Klingons were allies of the Federation since the 2340s and/2350s, and with the sacrifice of the USS Enterprise-C at Narendra III, would they honor said loss by naming one of their vessels IKS Qu' or IKS Tev' El, after the Klingon word for Enterprise?

I tend to doubt it. No matter how much they might respect and honor the sacrifice of the E-C crew, it still wouldn't be equivalent (in the Klingon mind) with the deeds of Klingons. Further, a Klingon politician might fairly worry about appearing weak/pandering/human-loving if he were to officiate over such a naming.

Think of it like the Tokugawa shogunate, which in many ways is a fair parallel. The Tokugawas were long willing to benefit from a trade monopoly with the Portuguese, Dutch, and English; but many - notably Ieyasu - were also just as willing to legally ban any gaijin influence which they saw as erosive to their way or no longer helpful to their political aims.
