Reason for D'Deridex size

So despite a lot of the debate going around most people seem to think it is of comparable power to the orignal run of GCS. Maybe a bit more maybe a bit less.

But considering it is a considerable larger there shouldnt even be a contest.

Some people assume a lot of the volume is just empty space or used for ground troops. Slightly wasteful for a frint line battleship in my opinion.

But while watching the TNG episode with the prototype cloak they mention they are powered by a singularity of sorts.

Perhaps this is the reason behind the large size. To tap into this form of power it need a large casing... doesnt explain how smaller ships use this power source though... maybe the size needed to hold it grows exponentially with size...

I don't know. The ship is large in dimensions but what about volume?

Well the two would be related to some degree...

Dimensions not really. There is alot of empty space. Who knows if those two wings are even habitable.

Yeah. One could fairly reasonably argue that only the front beak is habitable. The wings could be matter storage for the warp drive.

It has less mass than a GCS. The D'Deridez is a giant hollow shell... almostl ike a turtle shell without the turtle in it. Even though it's external dimentions are HUGE it seems more for show than anything else. Sort of like how animals puff-up to look more impressive.

How do we know its empty? There is no eviedence of that.

I think they mean the literal empty space between the wings and most of the center of the ship.

Intimidation? "Rawr, we got a big ship! Ignore the hollow space in the center..."

Pretty much... yes. There is no other real reason for it.

Warp field dynamic...?

The first and last pictures on the DITL entry seem to show rows of lights similar to window rows on the back portion of the D'Deridex. Looking at the images I'd hazard a guess that the front and back (the beak and the tail) are habital, probably joined by access tunnels/turbolifts/other conduits through the necks with engineering being either in the tail or along the upper spine/wing.

I've heard many times how Romulan cloaks were better than Klingon cloaks, so maybe this design helps for the cloaking field?

Could be at that, the empty space could help them move light around them.

It's over four times the volume. Much less than a GCS-shaped ship of the same length would be, but still a lot bigger.
