I did read somewhere that the four nacelled Nebula was an engine testbed ship. I can't remember where, so it's almost certainly just fan speculation.

I would be a little surprised if they were testing a nacelle design on such an important ship as the Galaxy class. Nebula or Freedom yes but Galaxy, no.

Why not? Starfleet uses their hottest high-end new projects as testbeds all the time.

Just out of curiousity, can a Nebula execute a saucer seperation?

Not sure. Does the pod attach to the saucer? if so then I doubt it.

The Neb's hull is solid minus the pod I'd guess. No need for the saucer to part if the WC is in the saucer.

Why would a Nebula-class separate? The GCS can because there is a lot of structure that isn't part of the saucer - not so much with the Neb.

Exactly. You'd be better off just ejecting the WC instead of losing that entire section.

I was curious. I saw an up close pic of one, and it LOOKED like it had that hull seperation line. Could have just been a by product of the kit bash, but, hey....in Trek, you never know

I'm sure it was. Even IU, it could be said that the same saucers were used before being differentiated by the class they would become. I still say that even with a plane of separation, there is no good reason to do it in a Nebula.
