Picard's Best Command Decisions

Post by Sionnach Glic »

Ian suggested that in addition to the "Worst command decisions" polls, we could also have a "Best command decisions" poll. So here it is.

Well, what are some of Picard's best decisions?

Pleading with Q in "Q Who?" - shame Janeway couldn't do the same and swallow (shut it Tsu) her pride.

Fiding that loophole in the treaty with the SHeliak and exploiting it, buying the time he needed to evacuate the colonists.

Violating Starfleet's stupid, pointless and useless command to patrol the Romulan neutral zone with Starfleets's most powerful vessel, and joining the battle at Sector 001.

Revealing the fact that he was NOT in fact, a God to the primitive proto-Vulcans.

I was going to go for that, but Picard did go all Captain Ahab at the end of the movie, so maybe Starfleet had a point. Still, if they were that worried they could always have ordered Riker to take command.

Sending back the Enterprise C through the anomaly.

That was a though choice to make not based on logic and common sense but on a small chance of success and the trust he placed in Guinnan. Most would have dismissed the idea of sending her back and wouldn't be able to grasp the possibly bigger picture.

Does alternate-Reality Picard count? :poke: ;-) Actually, I do agree with both this and choosing to reveal that he was not in fact a God to the Mintakans.

What?

I imagine she'd likely spit in Q's face first, though.

Since kost has already brought up the best, I'll go for giving Data command of the Sutherland.

Would his defense of Data in 'Measure of a Man' count?

I will say not giving Lal to the admiral in 'The Offspring'.

Giving Admiral Satie rope until she had an audience to perform in front of, then calmly putting a noose around her neck and dropping her through the trapdoor in the space of about five minutes flat.

Not a "command decision" as such, but "THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS!" - especially when it's revealed that he had broken, and was actually lying about what he saw.
