That is true. Mace was pretty damn powerful. If Anakin didn't sucker him, Mace could have finished him too.

Mace Windu was the second most powerful Jedi in the galaxy, next to Yoda. The only reason (I heard) why Yoda couldn't finish off Palpatine was because of Order 66. Yoda felt each and every Jedi death, weakening him, whereas the Sith get their power from death and destruction, so it fueled Palpatine. If you remember, in ANH, when Alderaan was destroyed, it weakened Obi Wan. At least it makes sense to me.

Mace had more of a chance against the emporer because he knre the Darkside like Yoda never did.

Aye, his unique form of lightsaber combat made him the best duelist around.

As for Obi-Wan + Yoda Vs Palpatine, I'd say they may have won. Yoda didn't get his ass kicked too badly until the very end (remember, Palpatine was even scared of fighting him initialy), so with the added distraction of Obi-wan around, I think they might have gotten a killing blow in.

Yeah I am by no means a SW expert but I believe he danced the line between light and dark and was thus able to harness abilities that other Jedi couldnt.

Even then, he was far from defeated, and could almost certainly have got back into the fight if he'd wanted too. However, that ran the risk of him getting killed, and thus costing the Jedi the insight he'd gained during the fight regarding how the nature of the Sith had changed over the past millenia

Teaos - where does the idea come from that Windu knew or studied the Dark Side? I think his advantage over Palpy was his strength of will, conviction in the Force, and technical lightsaber skill.

Not sure where I read it. But I was under the impression he crafted his own Jedi art that was right on the line of light/dark. He could draw strenght from both. But your right, it was his strenght of will which was his greatest power, it is what saved him from falling into the darkness.

Windu's personnal style of lightsabre combat - Vaapad - drew on elements of the dark side. It formed a sort of "superconducting loop", which allowed him to resist Palpatine's initial attack whereas the other Masters who accompanied him could not. It was also what allowed him to reflect Palpatine's force lightning back at him, whereas Obi-Wan, Yoda and Luke were, at best, only able to deflect it.

It's from the novel, rather than the film.

Yeah, the novels were all three much better than the movies IMO.

Yeah, Vapaad was mentioned in the novelisation as being a unique style created by Windu, in which he drew on both the light and dark side of the force.

That may also be where they got the purple colour of his lightsaber from. Blue + red = purple.
