I thought CVN indicated a nuclear carrier...

Re: The Future of the Romulan Empire
AFAIK, it does now. But I believe Deep is correct. The Enterprise was the first carrier to perform missions regularly at night, and thus gained an N at the end of the designation to reflect that.
"You've all been selected for this mission because you each have a special skill. Professor Hawking, John Leslie, Phil Neville, the Wu-Tang Clan, Usher, the Sugar Puffs Monster and Daniel Day-Lewis! Welcome to Operation MindFuck!"

Well, you learn something every day.
At least this time, it's something I want to know.

Re: The Future of the Romulan Empire
I've got a feeling your sailor was messing with you. As far as I'm aware in modern designation an N at the end means nuclear. It's why the... uhh, what was it, the last conventional carrier in the Navy was a CV even well after night ops were common.

Edit

Found it, the Kitty Hawk class were all listed as CV's despite serving in the Vietnam and post Vietnam era.

So, I didn't learn anything after all. Damn. Well, I'm going to be in an awkward situation at a party tonight; maybe I'll learn something there.

Re: The Future of the Romulan Empire
CVN Enterprise was Carrier Vessel Night 6, the CVN 65 is Carrier Vessel Nuclear. I'm guessing at some point they changed it?

Re: The Future of the Romulan Empire
You are somewhat right about that. Modern day carriers are either conventional (CV) or nuclear powered (CVN). There also has been:
CVL - Light Carrier
CVE - Carrier Escort
CVA - Attack Carrier
CVS - Anti submarine Carrier
Incidently, CVN-65 Enterprise used to be CVAN-65 at one point.

Re: The Future of the Romulan Empire
I hate to do this, but I can't help but wonder........do you think the destruction of Romulas would encourage Reunification? Not as an entire nation of course, but on a smaller scale.

Re: The Future of the Romulan Empire
To be honest its very possible. The loss of Romulas removed the base of the RSE. Without a strong central government to maintain control, I don't see why large numbers of Romulans wouldn't begin to move into UFP space and Vulcan in specific.Mark wrote:I hate to do this, but I can't help but wonder........do you think the destruction of Romulas would encourage Reunification? Hell, maybe with the secret intention of subverting Vulcan itself. These ARE Romulans after all

Re: The Future of the Romulan Empire
That is a funny thought but I don't see anyone having much luck in subverting the Vulcans. It would be like trying to plant an American in England and hope no one catches on.Mark wrote:Hell, maybe with the secret intention of subverting Vulcan itself. These ARE Romulans after all
More then likely, the Romulans who make the move will find themselves being sucked into the UFP collective. Either on the logic train with the Vulcans or the now very militarised Human Starfleet.
