Soon after we'd have the first Romulan in Starfleet

Well, aside from Ambassador T'Pel, but she was faking.
"You ain't gonna get off down the trail a mile or two, and go missing your wife or something, like our last cook done, are you?"
"My wife is in hell, where I sent her. She could make good biscuits, but her behavior was terrible."

Technically I don't think she was in Starfleet
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

IS the diplomatic core tied to Starfleet? I never thought so. But then, if they have trained diplomats, why send Picard every which way. Let them explore, and let another Captain ferry a diplomat. Like Kirk, with all those ninnies.

I believe there's a diplomatic sect of Starfleet, but it's rather small and used primarily for "hay, wanna stop fighting while the big guys negotiate a treaty"

Starfleet? With the expanded role of S31 during the Dominion War, I think there's a ready-made perfect home for Romulans who want to join up.

You REALLY think the paranoid "powers the be" of S31 would EVER trust Romulans? At least inside the first century or two?

Nope. But, to be fair, the situation we're discussing is so hypothetical it borders on including unicorns.

They'd need several tons of BOTH Romulan Ale AND Astroglide to smooth the way for that coupling.
