Yeah, they're slippery bastards those Romulans :)

Yeah, I was thinking of this while watching too. My guess would be that he was pressured to do so by Tal Shiar or somethign?
For all we know it could've been a setup all along. To when they first met.
Slippery... and patient those Romulans must be, to cultivate a mock friendship for 90 years before finally unveiling his dastardly plan! :poke:

Why not? Pardek could've been stringing Spock along, waiting for the perfect opportunity for something nefarious. It just never came up... until now.

I don't even think its that ridiculous. If you look at it, imagine that you've got a pair of dignitaries who are friends, in contact for quite a while. The Romulans are planning on something with the Vulcans, know Pardek is friends with Spock and can set it up, but also know that as a loyal Romulan, he'll do what he feels is best for Romulous. I'd say 90 year cultivation is unnecessary.

Good point. Setting up your friend of 90 years to support a covert government action is something that many humans would find unethical; but could very easily be something that most Romulans would consider natural.

Actually, it blends with what we know of Romulan character perfectly
They say that in the Army,
the women are mighty fine.
They look like Phyllis Diller,
and walk like Frankenstein.

You know... I wonder what sort of chewing out Sela got after the invasion was stopped.

"Let me get this straight... you left Captain Jean-Luc Picard, a highly-advanced android with computer skills beyond almost anything we've got and Ambassador Spock alone, unguarded within range of an unlocked computer terminal????"

Hmm... no wonder we never saw her again.

An android who shagged her mother no less.
"You ain't gonna get off down the trail a mile or two, and go missing your wife or something, like our last cook done, are you?"
"My wife is in hell, where I sent her. She could make good biscuits, but her behavior was terrible."

"Do you remember what Spock alone did to the commander of that patrol back a hundred years or so? And you left him with two other ultra-skilled beings? Commander Sela, there is but one punishment suitable for this. You are now our ambassador to...

the Talaxians!"

No, not her brightest moment, Mark.

And so was born the pejorative Romulan expression, "...like a blond-headed step-child."

Good one, Mark. :D She's probably replaced the other Romulan commander who got fooled by Spock.
