On the other hand it could be possible that since crewmen are basically Space Sailors that they would be cleaning up the ship. A Duty Section would clean up for example a deck. Junior Officers or enlisted could be tasked during the Gamma Shift to clean up the bridge.
Thats a good possiblity, Granted it would hav ebeen cool to hear the LT roomba report to ten forward in the series.

Well he specifically says the ship cleans itself. It's possible he sees the enlisted aboard as just part of the ship but I don't think it's likely.

Personally I like the little robot idea for general cleaning. I've always wondered where robots like that were in Trek. I'd have thought exocomp like robots would have been all over the place.

I remember that eppisode where they had to be "Cleaned" by a huge device, that kills life, so maybe that's how they clean it, go in every once in a while.

Starship Mine?

Wasn't the Baryon Sweep to clear something that builds up after prolonged use of a Warp Drive?

Yeah, but it still apparently killed all organic material, and disintegrated it, IIRC, and so cleans out any viruses or bacteria.

Alot of people in the Navy when the refer to 'the ship' they also refer to the crew as well. So that could be a possbility. Also, you have to consider how many robots we have seen on the ship on a regular basis aside from Data and the droid the week.

I personally like to think that in some unseen storage space there is a machine run by the main computer that can clean the passageways in a one or two runs.

Makes sense to me. I've always wondered about the washers, too. Sonic washing machines or simply replicate new ones?

Even better yet, sonic shower the passageways. Open up some panel in the ceiling or bulkheads. It would be the same principal as a sonic shower except used a much larger scale.

It was meant to clear the ship of all baryon particles. Obviously, it didn't do a very good job.

Given the energy involved in replication I'd probably wash them. Put them through a few dozen times before running them back through the replicator cycle.

I hate sonic showers.

I've always thought those were a case of making something sound futuristic for no good reason.

Precisely. There's no reason they'd be hurting for water.

Maybe not but they seemed to work really well and really quickly.

If it gets the same job done without water, than I would think it wouldn't be a bad invention.

Just wondering if it actually cleans with sonic waves, sounds soothing.

Given the level of sound you'd need to take off things like grease and such I'd probably use adjectives like deafening or lethal for a sonic shower.
