In your opinion, what was the strongest season of TNG?
I don't mean what do you think was the best season, I mean what do you think was the strongest season. By that I reckon I mean there should be some criteria.
For starters:
Good writing, as in a majority of the season offered good, original writing which objectively you should be able to identify whether you liked the episode or not;
good character development for the central characters of specific episodes;
remaining true to the original vision of Trek;
exciting and non-derivative plot/story lines.
The above is for starters and may change as the discussion develops. (This topic could also easily be used in any of the other series forums but I'm not going to start them).
Me, I'm going to have to go with TNG season 5.
It opens with Worf moving beyond his Klingon side (Redemption II); Darmok is classic Trek (do not bring up the phaser shot, give it a rest already); Silicon Avatar, Disaster, Unification I & II, A Matter of Time, Conundrum, and Cause and Effect are all well-written episodes with original story lines for Trek. The First Duty is great character development for the loathed Wesley Crusher you have to admit; Ensign Ro and The Next Phase have a great mystery and good character development to them. I, Borg might be the best Borg episode there is. The Inner Light, for character development and plain good writing this is tops or near tops. And Time's Arrow I is a good adventure piece.
You?

That's plural, not singular as the thread suggests.Deepcrush wrote:4-7 for me. Just liked the last half of the series.

Are you going to set up a poll, or do we just say which one we think was strongest?

Go by the criteria above (or add your own to it). Details help in threads such as these; it's the basis for discussion. Simply posting "6" doesn't do much, it gets your view across, sure, but the rest of us aren't left with much to work with. Whereas my OP is open for specific debate by all. I encourage such posts.

Yeah, I saw that.

I'm going with season 4. That is when the show really seemed to find it's feet and it's own identity.
They say that in the Army,
the women are mighty fine.
They look like Phyllis Diller,
and walk like Frankenstein.

I'd go with that, too. They started to really get into the show then.

I'll go with Series Three, they had ditched a fair amount of the baggage that Roddenberry saddled them with, Picard had ceased to be a prick and Riker became less of a poorly done Kirk clone. It still had the excellent music of the early Series and finished on BOBW, possibly the best TNG episode. It brought the Borg in as a serious adversary, rather then the enigma they had been before and IMO had the most believable character development for the cast.

Re: In your opinion, what was the strongest season of TNG?
My knee jerk was "4-6," which I'm sure lots would agree with. 4 is considered the season where things really broke through and we got the real feeling of an awesome show week after week. Season 5 had a lot of major plot points, with the aforementioned Redemption, Unification, etc. Season 6, pound for pound, may have the most episodes I really liked, than any other season. I also may be guilty, though, of being biased towards Season 6, as I was 10 or so when that aired, and while I vividly remember episodes back to when I was probably 5 or 6, I was lucky enough to be coming out of Piaget's "Concrete Operational" stage of development at a very early age, so by 10 I can remember getting some of the intricacies of the show.
So in a nutshell, season 6, but with an asterisk.

Don't you hear my call, though you're many years away, don't you hear me calling you?
