No, GK stated that problems were already happening. So he should have dumped the core before he lost the ability to control it.

but were the problems specificly with the core, I read it as being ship damage in general?

When your safety controls attached to the WC are starting to fail. Its time to dump it. If the safety controls on the coffee pot breaks down, not a time to dump the core.

Well it would have made sense if they would have shot back a few more times. But, if the core is breaking down, safety systems failing, ship being bashed, shields useless and your command staff unable too return fire.

I agree...I just read his statement as being shipwide systems starting to fail, not specificly the Warp Cores systems.
