Regardless of what it was meant to represent it shows that technology, if sufficiently advanced, can kill a Q. If they can be killed they're not omnipotent, and not gods.

Not at the time, but what it was isn't really relevent - it was clearly a piece of technology, given that Voyager's crew were able to use them.

Given that a decent right cross was able to knock a couple of Q's teeth down his throat, however, it's not inconceivable that a musket might be able to kill one of them.
