The Liuetenant Commander of Mirth, Data

Post by Josiah Thompson »

Data is a character we know and admire, who asks us to be better than ourselves. Shouldn't we start a new topic on him and his amazing life?

( Topic title taken from a line in a TNG episode, the one where Data meets the holodeck comedian )

Yeah, I always forget how much Data makes me smile, but episodes like "In Theory" which was on today remind me what a great examination of humanity Data really is. He certainly gets my yes vote.

I like the character of Data and what he brought to the show.

But the idea of Androids scares me. The are supperior to humans in almost everyway. I find the idea of them very unsettling.
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

I like Data, all his accidental jokes. :)

Life forms. You precious little life forms...

Lieutenant Commander Data is (or should I say was) always my favourite character in all of Trek.I was deeply saddened by his death in Nemesis, as it was as poorly scripted and carried out as Kirk's. :(

See, I thought it was well done. Sudden, unexpected, but thoroughly. selfless and helped to save the day. We all can't have Spock-like death scenes. Death often is sudden.

Do I like Data? Well, duh. :o

Coolest TNG character ever, in my opinion...

Yea, blessed are our eyes for they have seen:
Let the thunder break on man and beast and bird
And the lightning. It is something to have been."

I liked his death scene. I thought it was very data.

I love Data and thought his death was well done too. In his own way, he achieved humanity through his rescue of Jean-Luc and self-sacrifice. *Salutes*

'Measure of a Man' too, one of the defining TNG episodes.
