Essential Episodes for a Newb

Post by Bryan Moore »

Okay, so I can proudly (or dorkily) say that I've seen every TNG episode at least 10 times (some of them many, many more). I'm planning on introducing it to my reluctant girlfriend (she's begged to watch the Star Wars sextilogy, however), and want a list of people's essential episodes. What I am requesting is this:

From each person, just one episode of their chosing, to show my girlfriend and win her over. No repeats.

Lets see what we can come up with for me! Any help will be much appreciated. I'll take the top 10-20 choices and give her a little bit of a compilation.
Don't you hear my call, though you're many years away, don't you hear me calling you?

When you say "reluctant" I'm guessing that she hasn't been much of a Trekker in the past. With that in mind, I'm going to say "The Inner Light." It is a prime example of pathos, drama, and acting ability taking precedence over the "science-fiction-ness" of the show.

Well I am going to forgo the obvious choices like YE, AGT, ect.

So I am going to vote for "The Chase". It has a nice plot line, some good species interaction. All the major races get a look in. It is a nice fun episode while also being true to the style of trek.
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Best of Both Worlds (either one). It has every element in it that made Star Trek great

They look like Phyllis Diller,
and walk like Frankenstein.

I'm going to go with Darmok, as a great character episode, and one with an important meaning.

Lower Decks - not typical TNG but it gives a more 'real' perspective on it.

The Inner Light.

Inner Light or Darmok - probably the former

Well I vote Darmok, but since you don't want repeats...

You're showing these to a girl, so I would be tempted to go for a girly ep. Show her "Attached".

I hate to break the rules ( ), but Lessons, Attached, and The Perfect Mate all spring to mind as well. This is a girl you're showing the episodes to, after all.
